Artists
There is something special about the quality of the light in St Ives
which appeals to landscape (or seascape) artists and which is felt to be
unique to West Cornwall. As a result of the artistic heritage of St Ives,
the new St Ives Tate Gallery - a branch of
the London Tate Gallery - was built and opened in 1993. Go out and about
or sit in one of the bay windows in the Quayside (see above panorama).
Walkers Cornish coastal path
Starting from your front door. You walk over jutting headlands and long
curves of beach. The most spectacular stretch ensues, with jagged granite
ridges running down into a turquoise sea, like primaeval monsters going
for a drink. In between lie hidden sandy coves and tiny hamlets such as
Zennor and Morvah, which seem to grow organically out of the rocky
landscape.
Golfers Tregenna
Castle Golf Course
Set in the magnificent grounds of Tregenna Castle Hotel the parkland
course is a challenge to even the low handicapped golfer. With narrow
fairways, small greens, fabulous views of St Ives and the Bay and a new
19th hole it is a course not to be missed!
Handicap Requirement: No certificate required.
Green fees: from £15
Romantic
Cornwall is one of the most
scenically beautiful counties with many varied attractions, and St Ives is
well placed for visiting most. Within easy driving distance is the amazing
Eden Project, St.Michael's Mount, Minack Theatre, Land's
End, Museums, Galleries, National trust Properties, wonderful Sub Tropical
Gardens and the Heliport for trips to the magical Isles of Scilly. The
local romantic restaurants and bars stay open all year and the pretty
Dickensian streets are a delight to wander through in the midst of the St
Ives mild winters.
